Ripple Effect Workshop Sparks Connection and Conservation in Royal City

On Saturday, May 3, the Columbia Basin Conservation District (CBCD) hosted a Ripple Effect Workshop at Royal City High School. The event brought together 14 landowners from the Lower Crab Creek area to learn about available conservation programs and share ideas for improving land management.

The workshop featured presentations from CBCD staff, NRCS District Conservationist Holly Taylor, and Brian Antonio Muegge, Farm Program Manager for Salmon Safe. Topics included financial and technical assistance available through CBCD, NRCS, and Salmon Safe certification.

Following the presentations, landowners participated in roundtable discussions where they shared challenges, asked questions, and offered advice to one another.

“The group was very engaged throughout the event. They were honest and realistic about what’s feasible for them when working with agencies, especially when it comes to their bottom line." — Dinah Rouleau, Conservation Director, Columbia Basin Conservation District

The event was highly interactive, with many attendees staying engaged throughout. Staff noted that the level of participation showed clear interest and need for continued outreach in the Lower Crab Creek area.

This workshop is part of CBCD’s continued work in the Lower Crab Creek watershed, where a recent National Water Quality Initiative (NWQI) study helped secure funding for local conservation efforts. As a next step, CBCD staff will be following up with all attendees of the Ripple Effect Workshop to schedule free site visits and provide personalized support.
